About Us

On July 22nd, 2015, I was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer. The doctors insisted that I start chemo and radiation to prepare for surgery. When I “ ua ‘ike” (peered) into my “na’au” (guts), where I was told the tumor was, it became clear that conventional medicine was not the best path for my healing, so I began treating this dis-ease with Hawaiian healing arts like pule, ho’oponopono, and aloha. I have faith in my kûpuna and ‘aumakua to provide the most appropriate healing for my soul, whatever form that may take.

Do you need a hug? This blog is my attempt to give a virtual hug to anyone who needs one. GET A HUG NOW. Actually, I’d love to create a community of everyday gurus who uplift, embrace, and inspire each other and everyone around them.

The Dream/Vision

This dream community would look something like this:

  • We are committed to creating peace in our lives, homes, communities, and world. See Bloggers for Peace.
  • We are a community that is devoted to the pursuit of happiness through lovingkindness, gratitude, compassion, and empathy. See 5 Steps to Peaceful Resolution.
  • We strive for happiness regardless of material conditions, relationship status, or past history. Click to Re-hydrate Your Spirit.
  • We share the miracles of everyday life to inspire, instruct, and support others and ourselves. For example, Friends and Enemies.
  • We try to maintain peace of mind, equanimity, and lovingkindess at all times.
  • We try to be open to all points of view.
  • We even try to love our enemies.

Feel free to join our community by clicking on the Free Hugs button in the right hand menu bar.

Hugging Gurus

The Catalyst

My goal is to simply be a catalyst for this blog. In no way, shape, or form do I claim to be a guru of any sort. This blog belongs to anyone who reads, comments, or smiles on the blog.

Pleased to Meet You…

I am a “Manny” for two beautiful sons. I am learning to be thankful for all the miracles that occur everyday. Previously, I was a surfing filmmaker, a college English teacher, and a world traveler.  Having spent time in India with famous gurus, I noticed that many  everyday people, places, and things could be just as powerful as meeting self-realized masters.

Please Share

This blog is a sanctuary for all to share their experiences with their own everyday gurus. Every comment will receive a virtual hug. {{{Hug}}}

  1. Ha! No wonder you liked my reflection of the surfer/world traveller 🙂

    • Kozo says:

Yeah, Annie, I actually cruised around in a Kombi in Europe, surfing with a bunch of guys from Sydney. The main difference between me and your crush is that I’m not gorgeous. haha

      • Ah it’s all in the eye Kozo you know…. 🙂
I know he wasn’t one of them since he’s not from Sydney, and since his travelling wasn’t in Europe but interesting similarities..

  2. Sarah says:

Hi Kozo! I’ve awarded you with the “Beautiful Blogger” award! Check out my post about it for all the rules, etc. I am halfway through “It Might Get Loud”, btw. Thanks for the recommendation!!

  3. MindMindful says:

I’m in with the effort to be one of the lift-uppers:)

    • Kozo says:

Welcome aboard, MindMindful. Thank you for following. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how we can raise the roof of spiritual consciousness.
I see that we share the same interest in Amma and laughter. Thankful for your presence.

      • MindMindful says:

Well, I am ALWAYS glad to meet someone who shares the same journey:) Synergy!!

I like your phrase “raise the roof on spiritual consciousness” — makes it sound like a lively party, LOL

Your dream community is how I try to live (imperfectly I guess). I can’t resist the free hugs. Jen

  5. Excellent! Truly fascinating and Inspiring. Again, I am grateful to be part of our online spiritual community. If I can ever be of service, please, just ask 🙂
P.S. I really like your WordPress Theme. I’m still sorting mine out…not sure. I need it to use Video, as yours does…lovely aesthetic!
    Loving Blessings~ Keep Growing & Flowing 🙏

    • Kozo says:

Thanks, Jeff. I love how you say “our online spiritual community.” I feel like we have a new place to worship. I am grateful for you and the other members of this very special community.
“Everyday, in every way, we are getting better and better.”

  6. advocacine says:

Now I understand why you sounded so positive and quite encouraging re my “plight.” I lived in Pune, India for over three years but I only saw gurus from a distance. I felt more the spirituality of the community and its ambiance when I was with the ordinary people I happened to meet there…
Let me join you in your effort to build this dream community. Afterall, everything starts in a thought, a dream… like all the seemingly impossible dream projects that I managed to realize for some of the marginalized sectors in our society.

I love this Kozo! Good thing I read the post on About pages on WP as I don’t always check them out…I should. Love the photo too. 🙂

      Thanks, Laura. I am honored to be noticed by the cheeky pajarigirls. 🙂 I love your 11 questions. I just shoveled poo yesterday right after I put a brand new diaper on my 2 year old. haha. {{{Hugs}}}

      • pajarigirls says:

You’re most welcome. As for the poo…nice!! What kind of poo did you shovel? Will it be fertilizer? And a 2 year old human? Again, soooo glad mine are housebroken.

Good to have places where peace is a honored word. I have learn no winner in war. Just poor people in the way of guns and violence. Peace must come people with concern for human life. Not making money. I like the words of John Denver. “war is a sin.” I heard on a kid cartoon today. War are ended using the heart. I agree.

  34. I love what you are doing here. Count me in for the Bloggers For Peace Project. I will officially join this weekend if I can figure out how to copy the badge over correctly. Everything in your Dream/Vision statement resonates with me. I will be visiting often. Thank you for everything you are doing here!

    • Kozo says:

Yay, Steve. Come join the fun. I love that the first thing I saw on your blog was “forgiveness.” Can’t wait to read more. If you need help on the badge, here are instructions.
First, right click on the badge on my site and “save image as…” on your computer.
Next, you need to upload it as an image in your media file as if you were going to put it in a post. I see that you have images on your site, so it is the same process. Go to Dashboard>Media>add new. Upload image from your computer to wordpress–it is probably in your downloads folder.
Then add the “image” widget to your sidebar–dashboard>appearance>widgets>drag image widget to sidebar.
Then you go back to the media and click on edit next to the badge. You will get a “file URL” on the right.
Copy and paste that in your image widget where it says “image URL.”

Let me know if you need any help. {{{hugs}}} Kozo

      • Thank you for the instructions Kozo and thank you also for the hugs!! I have now added the Bloggers for Peace badge to my blog and can’t wait to get started. Thank you for this great idea! I am glad to be able to participate!
