Blogging Break–Summer Vacation

I’ve taken both my sons out of school/daycare for the whole month of July. After forcing my son to do 21 pages of “optional” homework per week in kindergarten, I decided that my boys need a break. I’m following quantum physicist Amit Goswami’s advice on how to promote a creative mind by alternating doing and being–“do, be, do, be, do.”

Our attitude this summer vacation

Our attitude this summer–Just BE

So we are just going to BE in Nature, BE with family in Hawaii, and BE together.

Due to limited internet access and BEing with my sons 24/7, I will be taking a blogging break. I will still fulfill my responsibilities for Bloggers for Peace–reading and commenting on Peace Posts, creating and posting a Monthly Peace Challenge, and posting for Peace. I will probably be able to post a new article once a week, but I might be absent for days at a time as I teach my sons how to body surf, lay in the grass and wonder where clouds go to when they disappear, or go on bear hunts secretly hoping that a real bear never crosses our path.

I’d like to wish everyone a peaceful summer with lots of BEs and honey.

  2. Enjoy your boys, your family and this blogging break you are taking for the month of July Kozo .

I love the Be, Do, Be, Do you mentioned here. As usual you always give me food for thoughts. Thank you for all the lessons I learn every time I come here 🙂

Force???? You cannot force a child. Yoda did not force the Great Jedi. All work and no play, you know what happens, eh. Aloha and Mahalo.

Great point, Perpetua. There were weeks where I forced my son to do his homework. School is so crazy nowadays. No more naps, just pressure. Many kids in this area are in after school programs and summer study programs. And my son is only in kindergarten. Forget that. Time to PLAY. {{{ Hugs}}} Kozo

  8. Have a great Summer! 🙂

Very good. My household is in the ‘doing’ cycle right now…the long winter gave us extra ‘being’ time…enjoy yourself.

    Wonderful –
I love Amit Goswami. I listened to him when I was in my deepest healing time. Do -be -do.
    Yes. Much truth.
I treasure the being times with my daughter.
The doing seems to flow after the being – more naturally.
Of course there are always challenges in the reality of practice.
My husband and I are balancing who gets to do and be when with my little daughter.
Then there is the being tired out..not sure where that fits 🙂
As always, it is interesting to carry these practices in to daily life and be ok with not doing them perfectly.
    Take care –
    Hugs,
    Laurie

    • Kozo Hattori says:

Wow, Amit Goswami in your deepest healing. I would love to hear about that sometime, Laurie.
LOL about ‘being’ tired out. Pretty tired today after a full day at the amusement park, but it feels good to want to go to sleep at 9 pm. 🙂

Ya, When I decided to heal myself, I found interactive guided imagery/ meditation with an amazing guide. I did that every couple of months and then sifted through as much truth as I could on my own..including Amit Goswami. I am still trying to integrate what I took in..and continue healing. I am doing process coaching -a good find.
Finding words is hard so I am trying to show a gentler way of healing by continuing on from here and find my way to what I will do next and how to best reach back –
        Blessings –
        Laurie

Thanks, Shaun. My son has a soccer camp that he is excited about. Thought about you when I signed him up. {{hugs}}} Kozo

        Awww sooo lucky..
I loved Soccer schools in Summer as a Kid. Some famous player would always come around and drop in. Scouts go to these things also. Enjoyment is the absolute key. But one day he might want to do this for real, so enjoy, but give it all….Cheers Kozo..

Kind of like Queensland, but with relatives. 🙂 I guess my Auntie planned a huge banquet on Oahu with all my relatives. So there should be a boost of energy. {{{hugs}}} Kozo

  24. Good for you! Have a wonderful summer with your children 🙂

  25. Tracy says:

Have fun Kozo. Someone told me years ago that being is far more important than doing. I didn’t really understand it at the time. Now I know exactly what it means 🙂

  26. Rohan 7 Things says:

Awesome Kozo, that sounds divine! You have no idea how jealous I am right now after reading “body surfing in Hawaii”! Haha 🙂

I definitely agree with the doing and being. Everything in nature is pendulous; night/day, expand/contract, tide in/tide out, learn/rest and so on.

    Have a great time Kozo!

    Rohan.

    • Kozo Hattori says:

Thanks, Rohan. I’m going to come out of my blogging break to get your book–perfect summer reading. Plus, my wife will love the tips in Hawaii. 🙂

  27. Professions for PEACE says:

Good for you Kozo!!! And hopefully when you return perhaps you can share some insights on where clouds do go when they disappear…! Love that. And I love the ‘do, be, do, be, do’. Thanks for role-modelling for us all that breaks are not only okay but are sometimes just what is needed. Bless your heart and much love to you and your wonderful family. Have fun! Hugs, Gina

    • Kozo Hattori says:

Thanks, Gina. Yes, breaks are essential. I really believe that kids today don’t get enough breaks from school. At least my kids can say, “Remember that ONE summer when we didn’t have to study?” haha.
      {{{hugs]}} Kozo

    • Kozo Hattori says:

      Geo Sans,
I am so grateful for your friendship and your selfless giving. This article mirrors exactly what I am doing now, yet it was written in 2000. I am going to sign up for some workshops with the author since he is in San Francisco. I am also contemplating taking his year long training. I don’t think I would have found the site without your guidance. You have changed my life in so many ways. I do hope someday to get together for a playdate with our children. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. {{{Hugs}}} Kozo
